Anitomical, in collaboration with the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, has been awarded a Take-off phase 1 grant from the Dutch Research Council (NWO). This program is aimed at stimulating and supporting business and entrepreneurship from science. The grant will be used for a feasibility study into the use of digital anatomical 3D models of animals in education. The program runs from mid-September 2024 to mid-March 2025.
As part of the feasibility study, the project partners Anitomical and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam will have a prototype built of the CMS and the 3D viewer required to work with the digital 3D models. In addition, five digital anatomical 3D models of mollusks are being developed, namely an octopus (Eledone cirrhosa), squid (Loligo vulgaris), Roman snail (Helix pomatia), pond snail (Lymnea stagnalis) and mussel (Mytilus edulis). Once the prototype of the application and 3D models are ready, they will be tested in a live setting with biology students from the VU to investigate how it works in practice for the intended purposes.
